Fouling and Corrosion Prevention in Process and Cooling Water Systems

A broader and more integral scope of both water/steam systems and cooling water system

Overview

Cooling water is used in industrial processes to dissipate large amounts of heat. Process water (boiler feed water) on the other hand, is used in the water/steam circuit which is essential for boiler operations. Poor water treatment can have great impact on unit availability, reliability, efficiency and also environmental aspects.

Process water (water/steam chemistry for the water/steam cycle):

The virtual training will begin with process water (Boiler water chemistry) on what needs to be monitored, why, what the limit values are and what the consequences will be from deviations. Recognize early warning signals before failure, spot design flaws and may even propose operational improvements. The virtual training applies to all kinds of water/steam boiler systems that are made of (mostly) carbon steel and copper.

Attendees will further improve their practical knowledge on:

  • Boiler water chemistry guidelines: These will help in preventing plant damage due to corrosion and deposits, also helps to choose the right materials and against possible design mistakes.
  • Early warning signals for trouble and types of corrosion Awareness of early warning signals helps to act timely in response to plant damage mechanisms and helps to know what to look for during maintenance and operations.
  • Case studies of failed water treatment Examples of failed water treatment illustrates the severity of deviations from the guidelines and can act as an example of what needs to be avoided

Cooling Water:

Scale, corrosion and microbial fouling threaten your cooling system every day. The cooling water part will start by focusing on the type and design of cooling water system and waste no time but to focus directly on the important aspect such as biofouling related risk in cooling water systems, BAT control Options and opportunities to save OPEX cost and reduce environmental impact. Reference will be made to the IPPC BREF document and BAT technologies. In addition, reference will be made to cases in different countries where discharge FRC (free residual chlorine)  limits were taken into account optimizing biofouling control procedure.

The instructor will further share  the new proven technologies, best practices and new development on mitigation of biofouling in cooling water systems. At the end of the training participant will be able to understand better what biofouling risks can occur at their plant and how to prevent/control them.

These 4 half-days Online Virtual instructor-led Training (VILT) aim to give a broader and more integral scope on two sides of one coin on both process and cooling water. This will be augmented by case studies to demonstrated what may be the impact of inefficient treatment of your industrial water streams which would result in very costly effects.
